Advice on mobile phones

We completely understand that some pupils need to bring mobiles into school. We all lead busy lives and those of us with children want to be able contact our children in emergencies. Many of our pupils have to pick up younger brothers and sisters from primary school and it is useful if there are changes of arrangements.

However mobile phones do cause a considerable amount of disruption to lessons and to the classroom teacher. Mobiles should be switched off and put in bags during lesson times.

Teachers should not have to remind pupils about their phones. If a pupil is seen with a phone in lesson the procedure is clear. The teacher will take the phone from the child and hand it to the main office. The pupil can pick up the phone at the end of the school day in most circumstances.

Phones do get lost or stolen. Unless a phone is specifically handed to a teacher the school can not be responsible for any phone lost by pupils.
