Llanrumney High School
Welcome to the school website – Croeso i wefan yr ysgol.
Llanrumney High School is an 11-16 Comprehensive Community School serving Llanrumney and St Mellons. It is maintained by the local authority – the County and City of Cardiff.
Dear Parents/Guardians
I write to introduce myself to you, as the acting headteacher at Llanrumney High School, from the beginning of the summer term. My name is Patrick O’Neill, and I have been a secondary headteacher since 1990, and a school inspector, for both Ofsted and Estyn since 1997.
I have been asked to take over the school, following Mr Barnfield’s recent retirement, until such time as a permanent replacement headteacher is appointed. This is likely to be early in the summer term, and I will stay on to support the new head in the first instance, to ensure continuity in the school’s development.
All parents should have received a letter outlining a number of changes that I am planning to make during this time. If you have not had a copy please contact the school for further details.
As soon as a permanent headteacher is appointed parents will be notified.
I look forward to meeting at least some of you during my time at Llanrumney, and I will keep you informed of any other developments, as they happen.
Patrick O Neill- Acting Headteacher

We are a successful school which was highlighted in the Inspection Report by Estyn in 2006:
“Llanrumney High School is a good school which serves its pupils and the wider community very well. During their time in school pupils make very good progress. The learning experiences which the school provides and the care, support and guidance available to learners have a number of outstanding features.”
The school currently has just under 600 pupils on role which means that we are a small school in which all the pupils are well known to the teaching and support staff. The school also benefits from a hard working, well qualified and dedicated team of teachers and support staff.
Our school mission statement is ‘Educating for Life’ with a major emphasis on achievement for all of our policies. We are very much a Community Focused School proud of our links with our local communities.
We encourage visits from prospective parents or anyone else interested in our work with young people. There will always be a warm welcome for visitors – please make an appointment to be shown around the school.
Don Barnfield
Headteacher
